Singin' In The Rain!

Last night I had the pleasure to see "Singin' In The Rain", the 1952 classic, on the big screen at the Cinemark theater in Draper - thanks to my Dad organizing the evening and inviting our whole family.  It was a one-time showing and it was the most fun I've had in a long time!

They showed a TMC interview with Debbie Reynolds (who was adorable!) before the movie and also had clips of interviews with Donald O'Connor and Cid Charisse, which I think, made the whole experience much more enjoyable!  I have seen this movie many times - but it brought a special insight to certain scenes to know what the actors were thinking and how much work went into them.

For instance, there is a dance scene with Gene Kelly and Cid Charisse involving a long scarf blowing in the wind - which I always fast-forwarded through when watching it at home - which she explains how long they worked to make the scarf flow just right and how many times they had to dance this number to get it perfect.  I actually enjoyed the scene last night, knowing a little bit of the story behind the scenes!

Of course the highlight is Gene Kelly singing and dancing in the rain!  The look of bliss on his face and his happy dance steps just make my heart lighter!  So much fun to watch!

I think my sister, Melanie hit on what made it so enjoyable for me, too when she said to me after the movie, "It's part of our childhood!"  I was so happy after seeing it last night.  I love spending time with my family and sharing classic movies that we all enjoyed together before we could even imagine our adult lives.

  1. Aww.. I am so sad I had to miss last night, but I love how much fun you all had. I hope to make it to "To Kill a Mockingbird" that is also one of my very favorite books and movies. Now that I have read both blogs about this from you and Steph I feel I must go find my copy and watch it before another minute passes:)

  2. It really was fun, I'm so glad I went. I missed "To Kill a Mockingbird", too, Ang. We'll have to try and get out to these special screenings more often!
